Teal Kid with Senator Sherrod Brown

We are a month away from SHOW TIME here at Light It Teal.  We are focusing now on final applications and on getting the word out about the amazing lightings we have scheduled for this year!  We have things covered pretty much from sea to shining sea. We have some amazing new sites this year, as well as some of the “OG’s” on the list, including the first building we started with, The Terminal Tower in Cleveland, Ohio, for the fourth year in a row!  I’m very excited about that!

We have also had the opportunity to expand our reach by offering opportunities to other allergy organizations to sponsor lightings. This year we are very thankful to the Allergy and Asthma Network. They are sponsoring our very first lightings of the year at the beginning of May, which is Food Allergy Awareness Month!  I have always said that we are just here to shine a light on allergy awareness, as well as asthma and Celiac disease to some extent, by way of our experiences.  For us, these conditions impact our daily life, so they tie together in our home.  I am not an expert though.  I prefer to leave the bulk of the education to organizations who have been at this for far longer than I have been. For over 30 years, The Allergy and Asthma Network has made it their mission to end the needless death and suffering due to asthma, allergies, and related conditions through outreach, education, advocacy, and research.  That is something that we at Light It Teal are 100% behind!

Last year we had the opportunity to lobby in Washington, D.C. with The Network. We were able to talk to our elected officials and tell them how important clean air, access to medication, and things like tele-health are to our community. This year we will again make the trip to D.C. to impress upon our federal government the needs we all have, and to help support The Network’s mission.  Together we are a vocal group, and I do hope to impress upon our Senators and Congresspersons how important these issues are.

The Capital Wheel, 116 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD

While we are in D.C. on May 4th for lobbying day, we will have the opportunity to visit the Capital Wheel, which will Light It Teal thanks to the support of The Allergy and Asthma Network.  On the same night, all the way out in Seattle, Washington, The Great Wheel on Pier 57 will also Light It Teal, again thanks to The Network.  I told you we had sea to shining sea covered!

We do hope you can all get out to enjoy these first lightings.  Please send us your pictures so we can include them on our site and social media.  Remember to use the tag #lightitteal, and we hope you are as excited as we are for this year’s lighting season!
